Using Mind Mapping Software to Conduct Genealogy and Family Tree Research
Learning about ones family history and ancestry has become a growing phenomenon in recent years. He then adds a branch to his map, on which he lists his own name. On two more branches, which he attaches to the one on which his name is listed, he lists the names of his parents. He continues his map by adding branches and listing the names of relatives from each generation as he finds them in the process of his research. Throughout his Mind Map, the man uses colors, pictures, and other graphics to denote missing or questionable information, as well as to make his family tree easier to conceptualize. When he has completed his map, it looks similar to the attached Mind Map diagram.
Understanding His Family History as a Result of Mind Mapping
After six months of research, the man finds that he has done a fairly good job recreating his family tree. Though there are still many pieces of information missing, he, nonetheless, has been able to organize the information he did find very efficiently using his Mind Map. Each time the man finds a new relative or date of birth for someone, he simply adds it to his intuitive map; the visual imagery of the map makes it easy for him to follow the branches stemming from a particular line of his family tree, allowing him to quickly see where to insert the information. As a result, he has gained a deeper understanding of his family history, and has thoroughly enjoyed how creatively Mind Mapping has allowed him to do so. The man hopes that, with more digging and the continued use of his Mind Map, an even more complete picture of his ancestry will emerge.
